The Missing Reel

Here is a compilation of some of the stuff that mattered to me this week whether it be good or bad that I didn’t feel was necessarily interesting enough to dedicate an entire post to. This way I can at least show you guys some pretty cool stuff in one big post rather than a bunch of little boring ones. And since I usually only have time to post once a day I like for them to have some substance to them which is how I came up with what you are reading now, The Missing Reel. Depending on how this one goes I’d like to do something like this every week.

In the very first edition of  The Missing Reel we are going to take a look at everything from zombie themed book marks too Jake Gylenhall being a psychotic killer. Enjoy!

Zombie Bookmark

These days it’s rare to see anyone with a physical book anymore. With the kindle and other tablets, the printed page is slowly dying. I love to read and there is just something about holding the physical book in your hands that you just don’t get from a kindle. If you use a device in order to read your books then maybe this will change your mind. The Zombie Bookmark!

How cool are those? I’d like to see someone stick a pair of zombie arms out of their kindle! Each of these book marks are hand made by Anna Sternik and all you have to do is tell her how chewed up you like your zombies and she will create them for you.  You can pick them up at Etsy.com.

Is Patrick Bateman Returning?

In 2000, Mary Harron brought Bret Easton’s novel, American Psycho, to life starring Christian Bale. To this day I believe that this is Bale’s best performance. American Psycho is such a fantastic film about a wealthy investment executive who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from the world as he slowly decends deeper into madness. Truly an unforgettable performance from Bale in this one with an ending that will have you questioning your own sanity. The big news is that Easton has been teasing fans on his twitter account about Patrick Bateman and where the iconic character would today after the events of the first novel. Apparently he spent like 3 hours and used up 14 pages of tweets describing some of the crazy things that Bateman has been up to. Not only did he get a lot of fans excited but he seems to be really getting into the idea of creating a new novel. We can only hope this comes to life.

Lionsgate to remake Leprechaun

In a world of remakes even this one seems to be pretty far fetched. Really guys? Leprechaun? Have they already ran out of movies to remake that they have to resort to revisiting a character who loves potatoes and morbid rhymes? I can appreciate the character, he’s absolutely one of the most ridiculous evil little bastards there is but even in the 90’s when this was semi-acceptable people still hated it. I seriously don’t know which is scarier, those little shoes he wears or the fact that this is being remade. What gives?

A Taste of Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem

Rob Zombie has been hard at work on his latest film The Lords of Salem. I’m really excited for this film and with each picture surfacing from the director, it’s starting to look like this is going to be vintage Rob Zombie. I think it’s safe to say that many horror fans can appreciate what Zombie brings to the world of horror. He’s not afraid to show the brutal aspects of the genre and he’s a pretty damn good story teller. The latest image is a picture from the editing room, it’s not an official picture from the film but it does show the title sequence from the film and it has grind house written all over it. Very cool.

Stephen King Anthology Film Announced

Do you remember the days of the Anthology Film? For those of you who don’t know, an Anthology Film is a feature film that consists of several different short films that are often tied together by a single theme or premise. They have been less than popular over the years and it’s rare to see them being made anymore. It’s extremely unfortunate because they can be a lot of fun and often have some amazing little horror gems in them. Movies like Tales from the Dark Side, Twilight Zone, and Creepshow proved that this genre can be succsessful. Most recently we have been treated to films like Three…Extremes and Trick R’ Treat that show there is still a small heartbeat in the anthology film and I for one am pretty excited to hear about this one which features 4 of Stephen King’s short stories. Mark Pavia is the man who will bring these stories to life. King himself even selected two of the films that will be featured. How cool is that?

The four films include: The Reapers Image, Mile 81, N., and The Monkey. As cliche as it is to say, Mr. King is my favorite author, his stories are so unique and he has a way of telling them that can completely trap you in his world and I’m excited to see his characters alive on the silver screen.

Jake Gyllenhaal as a Disturbed Serial Killer

Jake Gyllenhaal has played many different character throughout his film career but never has he tackled anything like this before. This is a music video by The Shoes called Time to Dance in which Gyllenhaal plays a disturbed psycho killer. Throughout the video it shows him chasing his victims through dark alleys and strip clubs killing them off one by one. The music video is ridiculously long at over 8 minutes. I’m not too crazy about the song so trying to sit through it for that long is difficult. His performance, however, makes it worth while because he does a great job and seems to have captured the serial killer persona very well. I thought this was pretty damn cool, I like seeing big actors take a step back and lend their acting abilities to smaller mediums such as this. Very cool.

That will do it for this week. Just some of the stuff that mattered to me whether it be good or bad. Hope you guys enjoyed.

As always, thanks for reading.

  1. You are truly a gem 🙂
    I love this idea!
Leprechaun remake = sooo stupid, you are so right. I cannot even believe this insanity.
Patrick Bateman’s return would be amazing, but only if it were done right, and not some follow-up like that lame sequel that no one saw that really had nothing to do with him.
Lords of Salem looks pretty rad!
And I totally read real books! I have no tablet, Nook, or Kindle! Zombie bookmarks would be cool, they would definitely never get lost within the pages!
    Amazing stuff 😉

    1. Awesome! Really glad you like the idea. Lol, totally right about the sequel to American Psycho, wasn’t Mila Kunis and William Shatner in it? WTF? I seriously geeked out over those bookmarks, I hope they inspire other cool ideas like Jason’s Machete or Freddy’s glove! One thing that I love about a real book is that when you flip the pages you can actually see the progress, with a kindle I would just have this feeling of it NEVER ending! Thanks for the comment!

      1. No problem, it’s my pleasure! Yeah, those bookmarks are a good idea! I love real books, and the smell of the ink and paper, too. Same with magazines! People probably think I’m nuts, lol 🙂
