There are so many remakes in the works at the moment that you could dedicate a blog solely on all of the different reboots that are making their way to the screen. The newest addition to remakes is the Steven Spielberg produced and Tobe Hooper directed horror classic Poltergeist. This is one of those films that I always pictured to be untouchable because in my eyes Poltergeist is the perfect horror movie. The characters are so believable which is a rare commodity in the horror genre and there are scenes in the film that are completely unforgettable. Anyone who has seen Poltergeist remembers the swimming pool scene when the skeletons float out of the water. Or how about the scene where the boy tries to throw his coat over the clown doll’s face but misses allowing it to stare back at him while he sleeps? It is a classic in every sense of the word and now it’s getting the remake treatment.

It is great to see Raimi getting back into the horror genre because he’s one of the people who helped make it what it is today. It is just the whole idea of a remake of Poltergeist that I feel is unnecessary because I can’t imagine it capturing the same level of horror as the original. Everyone would agree that this would be much easier to swallow had Raimi himself been behind the camera but unfortunately he will only be producing along with Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee.

Up next we have some more interesting news on a remake I am much more on board for. Being a huge fan of Chloe Moretz who is no stranger to the horror genre (Let Me In), I think she is going to do a fantastic job with the iconic character. Here is what Moretz had to say about the role:

“It’s an amazing role, and I’m so excited to get in there and try to tackle it and see what I can change up. It’s already been done, and there’s already been the amazing, amazing Sissy Spacek version of it, but what I really want to do is spice it up and take a more modern, younger approach to it because I am going through what Carrie is going through. She’s figuring out who she is, and I just really want to get in there and see what I can do, feel it out.”

Also, from various sources it is rumored that Carrie will be a much more faithful adaptation of the Stephen King novel because there will be an element of found footage to the film. And it makes sense because in King’s novel it is broken up into different interviews with the survivors of the prom incident making the entire thing much more mysterious because no one other than the few survivors really knew what happened on the night of Carrie’s prom. And this is why I am much more accepting of the Carrie remake because if the rumors are true then at least they are trying something new and it isn’t going to be a complete carbon copy of the original film.

And last but certainly not least it has been confirmed that Julianne Moore has been in talks to play Carrie’s mom.

Carrie is set to open on March 15th, 2013.
