The Missing Reel

Here is a compilation of some of the stuff that mattered to me this week whether it be good or bad. This week on The Missing Reel we take a look at a retro horror style music video, What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? gets the remake treatment, a Comic-Con roundup and more. Enjoy.

‘Heartbeat’ Music Video Is Wonderfully Retro

Let’s get things started with this awesome music video from Jjamz’s song “Heartbeat” which is directed by Eddie O’Keefe. This video brings back so many memories of the old-school horror films that we all grew up loving and the director nails the vibe of the old 70’s and 80’s horror films. Also, if you look closely you can see some grain on the screen which means they either shot the video on 16mm or added it digitally. Regardless, it’s pretty kick ass.

‘What Ever Happened To Baby Jane’ Remake

The 1962 Bette davis-Joan Crawford classic film What Ever happened To Baby Jane? will be written and directed by Walter Hill who has just finished Bullet To The Head starring Sylvester Stallone. Hill came up with the idea of re-visiting the classic when he wrapped on Bullet To The Head saying, “The two equal leads demand great performers — that is a given. The intensity of the Gothic storyline makes a reconfiguration of the drama still a potentially searing experience. The idea is to make a modern film without modernizing the period. It needs to resonate the golden age of Hollywood.

New Picture From Rob Zombie’s ‘The Lords of Salem’

Every week we seem to be getting closer and closer to finally getting the long awaited trailer for Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem. Until then however, we get this sweet new picture which features a freshly burned corpse.

Even More Rewrites For ‘World War Z’

Just recently it was reported that Promethus and Lost writer Damon Lindelof was coming in to write an entirely new ending to the already troubled World War Z. It turns out that Lindelof only wrote a potential ending to the film but couldn’t find time to rework it into the script so the job landed on his Lost partner Drew Goddard. Goddard has just come off adapting Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Robopocalypse. He also wrote Cloverfield and directed the huge hit The Cabin in the Woods. I for one am happy to see this because Goddard is no stranger to the horror genre.

Comic-Con Round-up

With Comic-Con in full swing this week I thought I’d share some of the stuff that I thought was pretty cool so far.

  1. I had NO IDEA they were going to do a remake of “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” Not sure how I feel about this, but I’m glad filmmakers intend to evoke the golden age of Hollywood. Who knows – it might actually be good! Thanks for sharing this vital info. 😉
