Open Road has just released an official trailer for the upcoming sequel Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and I must say it actually looks pretty damn good. I never played the games so I couldn’t compare the story with the first one but regardless I felt that the first film had potential to be great but it never quite reeled me in. I didn’t hate it like some people but I also didn’t love it either. With sequels generally always being terrible I never had this film on my radar… until now. After seeing the first trailer for Silent Hill: Revelation, I must say it looks surprisingly awesome. I guess I was always expecting a direct to dvd style of filmmaking but instead we get what looks like an extremely well done looking film with some stunning visuals.
The film is directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), and with the original cast members returning with Sean Bean, Deborah Kara Unger, and Radha Mitchell it’s certainly going to add an element to the film that can only help it.
“Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. On the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.”
The worst thing about this trailer is the fact that it basically shoves the 3D aspect of the film down your throat and almost makes it a bit cheesy, however, with these great visuals and awesome looking monsters If done right, the 3D could turn out to be great. I’ve only seen a handful of films that actually utilized its 3D in such a fashion that it actually benefitted the film . Hopefully this won’t affect what looks to be a solid horror film.
You can expect to see Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in theaters on October 26, 2012 just in time for Halloween. Check out the trailer below.
