With New York Comic-Con in full swing, the very first image of the hotly anticipated remake of the Evil Dead is here and it’s absolutely chilling. If this is any indication as to how the movie is going to be then I think it’s safe to say Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have put this film in safe hands with director Fede Alvarez. Not only has the first image been released at the con but they’ve also screened a trailer and buzz surrounding it is absolutely phenominal saying it gave, “chills because of how much promise it offers“.
Bruce Campbell explained why they made the remake in the first place as he says: “These people want hot thespians covered in buckets in blood with a new director hand-picked by Sam Raimi himself. You need horror with blood flowing down the screen. You can be the judge, but we did not screw you over.” Fede adds: “I wanted to make a movie with horrible fear, the gore, the violence, that’s what we wanted in the new one. It’s hardcore horror, brutal violent, gory.”
The first image features Jane Levy crawling out of the infamous cellar door and it’s purely horrifying. This particular scene is one of the scariest scenes from the original, as you can hear and see the demon trying to crawl its way out. It was pretty ballsy to release this as the very first image but damnit, it’s cool as hell.
