Eli Roth’s ‘The Green Inferno’ to Shoot in Unfilmed Village

Last we heard about Eli Roth’s anticipated return to the horror genre with The Green Inferno was back in May with just a few details regarding the plot. Roth recently spoke with Movieline revealing some very cool stuff about the Cannibal Holocaust inspired film. The November shoot is just on the horizon where Roth will be filming in a village where the people who live there have never seen a movie before. How crazy that must be for the villagers; going from never even seeing a film before, to having one shot right in their home.

Roth is taking a small film crew to the remote village up the Amazon River that has “no electricity, no running water, nothing.” And what exactly will the villagers be getting in return? “We’re giving these people a boat They have no contact with the outside world and we’re giving them a motorboat and we’re giving them medical supplies and school supplies, so they’re ecstatic. The one thing they need is a boat. They were like, ‘This will literally change our lives’.

Since the villagers had never seen a movie before Roth and his crew showed them a screening of the most logical movie they could think of. Cannibal Holocaust. “The villagers thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen.” These villagers must be some cool people because when I first saw Cannibal Holocaust my reaction was the furthest away from thinking it was funny! They sound like some great people and It’s refreshing to see Roth giving these people all the things that they need to make their living better. For that, Roth has become one of the coolest dudes ever.

There still isn’t much on the plot other then it follows a group of New York City student activists who head to the amazon where they plan to protest and save un-contacted tribes.

Have any of you seen Cannibal Holocaust? If so what did you think? I’ve seen it once and I can say that the one time was enough.

If you are ever attacked by a gorilla just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of your limbs being ripped off.

    1. It’s a really hard movie to watch. Not because it’s scary but because of the things they did to real animals and what not. Definitely a strange choice for their first film but not at all surprising coming from Roth. I’m sure he was doing it to show them more or less the kind of film he is making.

  1. I own the deluxe copy of Cannibal Holocaust and I must say that it’s heartwarming family drama. If you’re family is the Sawney Beanes, that is.

    1. Hahahaha! Best family drama ever, it’s up there with Flicka. I found my copy of CH in a run down movie store. I should have known to stay away from it but the things I had heard about it made me want to see it. I’m happy to own it but I never recommend it to anyone because it’s just wrong on so many levels.

      1. I agree on every one of those levels. You can’t really even write a lengthy review of it because you always go back to the parts about animal torture like a dog eating it’s own vomit.

  2. I have Cannibal Holocaust 2 at home, unwatched, but will be watched and reviewed very soon. No idea what to expect……although I did ‘like’ the original for what it was. Nice post Ryan
