‘Bates Motel’ Checks In With First Image

Here is our very first look at the much anticipated TV series Bates Motel which will serve as a prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock classic, Psycho. With all of the recent announcements of TV series diving into the horror genre this one has to be the one I’m most looking forward to. It no doubt has some pretty big shoes to fill as Psycho is not only one of the most classic of horror films but it was brought to us by one of the most recognizable directors of all time in Alfred Hitchcock. Anytime a piece of Hitchcock’s work is being taken into new hands it sends up a red flag. A&E’s Bates Motel, however, looks to be something fresh with a fantastic leading lady in Vera Farmiga as well as the surprising choice of Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates.

The very first image shows Farmiga as Norman Bates’ mother, alongside Highmore who will portray the young serial-killer-to-be as they sit peacefully in front of the classic Bates home. Showrunners Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin have revealed a little bit about what we can expect from the series saying, “the town itself is very much a character in the show,” Cuse says. “There are a lot of secrets that lurk beneath this bucolic veneer.” I find that to be very interesting and the exact reason as to why I’m so excited for this series. A&E hasn’t gone with the typical story you would expect to see from the Bates family — instead they’ve brought new elements and secrets to the story which will be a fascinating look into one of the most famous families in horror history.

You can expect to see the show next spring on A&E. Have a look.

    1. Hahah! We don’t mention the Gus Van Sant remake around these parts! You’re right though, it really does sound interesting and if anything they at least have a solid cast going for them.

    1. Fingers crossed for sure. There is definitely potential because I think a lot of people will find the beginning of the family and how Norman ended up the way he did very interesting. As long as they don’t screw it up!

    1. Agreed. That seems to be the general worry so far with the series. I guess we will find out! I think if they explore how messed up of a child hood Norman must have had then this could get very interesting.
