  1. Well then. I thought 2013 was going to be the year for sci-fi but with this list, I have to give the horror genre some credit. Great looking titles, some I haven’t even heard of yet. You’re Next, in particular, looks interesting. The Strangers was a film that creeped me the fuck out, so seeing something follow that formula effectively will most likely do the same. Thanks for the list!

    1. No problem Nick! Yes, the horror genre is really looking pretty good for 2013. Most of these will probably be disappointments but theres definitely a few that I have HIGH hopes for, particularly Stoker and Evil Dead. You’re Next was a film that premiered at festivals a couple of years ago and people absolutely loved it. It went through a bidding war for its distribution rights and kind of got lost in the shuffle. It now has a release date though and all signs are pointing to it being amazing.

  2. Awesome list, I’d never even heard of most of these. For me it’s a tie between World War Z and The World’s End, but I chose the World’s End because I’m such a huge edgar wright fan. The Evil Dead movie has a lot of promise though, it’s going to be disturbing to see what they do with modern gore effects

    1. Those r two good picks! Can’t go wrong with Edgar Wright tho. Evil Dead has a lot riding on it and you’re completely right about the better gore effects. This is the version of evil dead that raimi and Campbell simply couldn’t make before.

  3. Solid list! I like the how most of these are horror/suspense. The Conjuring and Stoker look great so far. I am putting one together myself right now. Have you seen the trailer yet for Dead Man Down with Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace? That one looks pretty cool

    1. Nice man, looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Early buzz for The Conjuring is that it’s Wan’s best film to date which definitely catches my interest. I did see the trailer for Dead Man Down and you’re right, it totally looks badass. I loved the Pink Floyd cover in the trailer as well. Awesome!

  4. I can’t vote just yet b/c I haven’t seen a trailer for all of these, but based on the ones I have seen a trailer of I would vote “Mama”.

And I don’t care what anyone says, I loved “The Last Exorcism” as I felt it was really creative, and creepy; so, I am really looking forward to the sequel. I hope they wrote a quality script.

Most of these on this list do sound pretty good. It’s just all in the execution; as with The Last Exorcism sequel, I hope these scripts are well written, and the directors followed suit.

  5. *Also, there’s an Insidious sequel coming out in August; looking forward to that!

And stumbled upon this other low budget horror called “Haunt” that sounds interesting, set to come out in October.

  6. Great list Ryan. Voted for Oldboy, purely as the original is one of my all time favourites and I cant wait to see this take on it. 🙂 2013 will be a great year for us horror fans!

    1. Great choice Tyson. I’m really excited for Oldboy as well. I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people. At least I hope so anyways.

  7. I dont know how is the reaction for you guys up in america. But down here in south america we do not appreciate the many remakes mostly from recent movies like OLDBOY that are coming out, but i really enjoyed your list and website. Congratulations man..

    1. Hahah! Exactly. There’s a lot to chose from but it looks like Evil Dead has been the popular choice out of all of them. I’m curious to see how Horns turns out because that is one hell of a story.

      1. Have you read the book? I would have chosen Heart Shaped Box myself, but it’ll be interesting to see if Radcliffe pulls it off

      2. I haven’t read the book but I definitely plan to before the release of the film. I like Radcliffe taking on a role so outside of what you would expect. Heart Shaped Box is amazing btw.

  8. I’m pretty excited about all of these but I’m super excited to see how Horns plays out. I dig Joe Hill and have read (I think) everything of his by now (well, not the graphic novels, not all of those).

    1. Horns is by far one of the more intriguing horror films to be coming out. I’m excited to see how Radcliffe takes on a character like that.

      1. I think he’s a really great actor so I’m hoping he’ll do well. He seems a little younger than what I was picturing when I read the book but I think he can pull it off.

    1. Thanks man! I’m a bit worried about it to but I think it’s just a case of trying to avoid the bigger films. Who really knows tho.
