There Is Absolutely No CGI in The New ‘Evil Dead’

If the amazingly brutal red-band trailer wasn’t enough to get you excited, how about the fact that there is absolutely no use of CGI in the entire film. Director Fede Alvarez recently spoke with io9 and sad,“We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.

It really doesn’t get much better than that. The idea of illusions and camera tricks is a breath of fresh air and it’s nice to see Alvarez going old-school and making a horror film the way it’s supposed to be made — gritty, scary and real.

Now that you know there’s no CGI, watch the trailer again. It’ll blow your mind.

Evil Dead opens April 12, 2013.

If you are ever attacked by a gorilla just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of your limbs being ripped off.

  1. I want to know how those vines are coming out of Mia’s mouth w/out CGI; and that orange stuff she spews out in that girl’s face.

    1. I’d love to know AFTER I see the movie, otherwise it would ruin the effect! I hope there’s some sort of “making of” on the blu-ray, I’m sure that will be amazing.

    1. Same here, they can take all of my money at this point. Can’t wait! I knew most of it was going to be practical effects but not ALL of it. Crazy!

  2. Wow, if that really is the case (and I assume it is) then that genuinely makes me more interested to see it. I was kinda on the fence because I’m kinda a wuss and (*cowers in the corner*) I haven’t seen the original, but I’m definitely interested now. The trailer was absolutely insane!

    1. Oh man, definitely WATCH the original films! The no CGI aspect is pretty amazing. Whether this film is good or bad, It’s nice to know that they made an old-school do-it-yourself horror flick. I hope by the time of its release date I’ll have had you convinced to buy a ticket!

  3. I don’t think there’s any chance the film will turn out bad; they casted well, and aren’t using cheap CGI. I really like what they did with Jane Levy’s character on the still up at the top of this entry. I need to watch the original again before this is released – I don’t think I’ve actually watched the entire film from the beginning.

    1. Completely agree man. The chances of this failing are very slim at this point. I really can’t wait.

Don’t stop at the original, watch the entire trilogy!

  4. I don’t think I’d dig the sequels; it looks like they turned the franchise into a comedy – and I don’t think I’d like the shift in tone.

    1. You have to at least watch Evil Dead II, it improves on everything from the original, and perfectly blends humor with horror. It’s a great watch. Army of Darkness however, is a straight comedy so you could skip that one if you wanted.

      1. Man, you need to hurry up and read the script to that new movie “Knight” coming out; I heard the screenwriter is a big up-and-comer that’s going to make a pretty big splash in the industry!! 🙂
