If the amazingly brutal red-band trailer wasn’t enough to get you excited, how about the fact that there is absolutely no use of CGI in the entire film. Director Fede Alvarez recently spoke with io9 and sad,“We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.”
It really doesn’t get much better than that. The idea of illusions and camera tricks is a breath of fresh air and it’s nice to see Alvarez going old-school and making a horror film the way it’s supposed to be made — gritty, scary and real.
Now that you know there’s no CGI, watch the trailer again. It’ll blow your mind.
Evil Dead opens April 12, 2013.
