Way back in April of 2012 we learned that Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green had a script and was ready to push forward with a remake of Dario Argento’s horror classic, Suspiria. Not only did they have a script, but everyone working on the film seemed to be on board with it, saying that the script “brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film”.
Well, it appears that Suspiria has hit a bit of a snag with a legal situation that could very well keep the film from ever getting made. Green says, “Suspiria is caught up in legal crap so who knows what will ever happen to that,” he explained. “That kind of falls into the ‘Confederacy Of Dunces’ category of ‘someday I’d like to make these movies’ that I was once attached to and worked on, but they may never happen.”
Did you hear that? That was the sound of many horror fans collectively sighing with relief. While this is probably for the best, I was kind of looking forward to seeing what Green was going to do with the film. He has had a passion to get this film off the ground for a while and not many people have the balls to touch such a masterful piece of horror.
Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) has been the only one cast to tackle the leading role in the film up until this point, so I wonder if she’ll still own the role if this film ever gets going.
What do you guys think? Are you happy with the news?
Thaaaaaaank God. I’m all for filmmakers having passion about projects, but I’d recommend they find passion about original works. I mean, really. Just make a movie in the style of Susperia if that’s your bag.
