In probably the best casting news out of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes so far is news of Gary Oldman joining the already stellar line-up, reports Comingsoon.net. In addition to Oldman, you will see a returning Andy Serkis, recent reports name Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as two of the sequel’s principal cast. According to Comingsoon.net, Oldman’s character “will be boarding the project as the leader of a human colony”. I don’t know about you guys, but I can get on board with that!
Set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn finds most of humanity wiped out and the intelligent apes ruling over the world. Part of the film’s focus is said to be on a small group of San Francisco-based scientists that are forming a resistance against the apes and part follows Serkis’ Caesar as he, like his namesake, tries to maintain order and power within his new civilization.
I’ve been following Dawn very closely and you gotta love Oldman joining in on some ape-shit fun. He’s a fantastic actor who recently starred in John Hillcoat’s Lawless. Featuring a screenplay by scribe Mark Bomback, Apes will start filming this spring and aims for a May 23, 2014 release.
Get excited!
Oldman vs. Serkis 2014. Yes please
Who is he playing?
All they said was that he’ll be playing a leader of a human colony. Probably a badass I would assume!
Sweeeeeet!
That sounds awesome, but how did humanity get wiped out in those 15 years? How are they going to explain that … some sort of Rocky like montage?
I just remember at the end of RISE, the infection spread throughout the world so I’m assuming thats what happened. If I remember correctly. Rocky montages work as well!
