Rhino regulars should be very familiar with Toby Jones’ psychological horror film Berberian Sound Studio as I’ve covered it quite a bit in the past. Whether or not this is the first time hearing about Peter Strickland’s latest flick there’s an all new trailer and it’s filled with screams of terror. Music to my ears!
The film made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where it opened with mixed reviews. It certainly seems like an odd flick but I love the atmosphere of it as it echos that of an old Italian film from the 70’s.
1976. A mild-mannered British sound engineer named Gilderoy (Toby Jones) arrives in Rome to work on the post-synchronized soundtrack to The Equestrian Vortex, a tale of witchcraft and murder set inside an all-girl riding academy. But as Gilderoy begins to work on this unexpectedly terrifying project, it’s his own mind that holds the real horrors. As the line between film and reality blurs, is Gilderoy working on a film—or in one?
The flick is set to open on June 14th on VOD!
It was okay, a little too weird for me.
Yea the response seems very mixed which sucks cause this one looks pretty damn interesting!
It is interesting, beautifully shot and the acting is superb. Didn’t like the story.
