Potential Godzilla sequel will Destroy All Monsters!

While we still have to wait a year for the upcoming remake of Godzilla, that hasn’t stopped Gareth Edwards from coming up with a potential sequel idea — and it’s pretty awesome! In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Edwards talks about one of his favorite films from the original series as well as what he’d like to do with a sequel.

“With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira.”

There you have it. Looks like Edwards wants to take his next Godzilla film in the direction of Destroy All Monsters. Can’t really complain about that! As excited as I am to see the return of Godzilla, I’d love to see the likes of Mothra, Gigan, Rodan, and King Ghidorah tearing shit up on the big screen once again!

Edwards directs from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham. The film is set to crash into theaters on May 16, 2014 with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard T. Jones, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, David Strathairn, Patrick Sabongui, Yuki Morita, Brian Markinson, Juliette Binoche, Akira Takarada, Victor Rasuk, C.J. Adams, and Ken Watanabe all starring.

I enjoy life. Living comes so naturally to me, its a precious gift — like boobs… or rockets. I honestly believe that if you were ever attacked by a gorilla that you should just sit back and relax while you enjoy the once in a life time feeling of having each of your limbs ripped off.

  1. That would be awesome! A movie where Don Corleone, Tony Montana, Tony Soprano, Henry Hill, Michae-oh, wait it says destroy all monsters, doesn’t it? Never mind.

      1. It would be so cool to see a gigantic Michael Corleone and a gigante Tony Montana facing off on the streets of Manhattan; mainly because it would be two gigantic Al Pacinos.

      2. Don’t look now, but there’s a third giant mobster heading into the fray!! It’s…it’s…CARLITO!! OMG we have three giant Pacinos!!!

  2. Hopefully the 1st movie is good and it leads to the sequel. The problem I see is, this year’s dismal box-office numbers for the big budget movies has Hollywwood reeling (pun intended) and if fans don’t show up in droves for the first one, there will ever be a second. Weak box-office for Pacific Rim would have stopped the 2014 release if they weren’t so far along. Its amazing how people complain about remakes and sequels, but when something original comes along they don’t go see it.

    1. Couldn’t agree more! It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the future for big-budget films. Godzilla should do fine, it certainly has much more star power than Pacific Rim did. We’ll see though!

  3. I think Tony Montana could still be a part of that movie! One monster facing another could open the palm of his claw, revealing a tiny Tony, and bark: “SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!” And then little Tony will furiously use his rocket-launcher!
