Backmask is one I’ve been trying to keep a close eye on despite there not being a whole lot of information going around as far as when this one will get a release. Backmask is directed by Marcus Nispel who you may recognize as the man behind the remakes of both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. I was a huge fan of his take on Leatherface because he managed to make the iconic character terrifying once again and the look of the film was dark and gritty and really made for not only a solid horror flick, but one of the better remakes we’ve seen over the years.

His upcoming possession haunter is currently seeking distribution here in the States and I hope the film finds it soon because based on what we’ve seen so far, Backmask looks downright creepy and one hell of a gruesome horror flick. Below are some new photos from the flick by Lisa Tanner and they completely capture Nispel’s atmospheric style and I absolutely love the look of the film—some of these stills are stunning while others will chill you to the bone. Keep an eye on this one folks, it looks like it’s going to be shaking up the genre.

During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vintage record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it’s revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message….and that the real source of horror isn’t particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.

The film stars Brittany Curran, Gage Golightly, Stephen Lang, Kelly Blatz, Brett Dier, Nick Nicotera, Nick Nordella and Michael Ormsby. Check out the pics!
