For some of you Open Grave might have a familiar ring to it as I mentioned it way back in May. But because it has been so damn long since this crazy sounding flick has made the news I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the first a lot of you are hearing of this one. In short, it’s a pretty gnarly sounding thriller with one hell of a psychological twist to it as its set-up starts with Sharlto Copley’s character waking up in a giant grave full of dead bodies—that has to be at the top of the list of shitty ways to start your day!
Open Grave makes the news today because Tribeca Film announced that they have acquired all U.S. rights to Gonzalo López-Gallego’s thriller. That means we’ll actually be able to get our eyes on it in the near future. While there’s no exact date just yet, it is said that the film will get a December day and date release here in the States.
The high-concept Open Grave follows a man (Copley) who wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together — before it’s too late.
Starring alongside Copley is Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals), Josie Ho (Contagion), and Thomas Kretschmann (Valkyrie, Wanted). Check out some stills below!
