You know who needs a reinvention? The Abominable Snowman! Seriously, that’s a monster that everyone associates with a cartoon these days so I think it’s a fantastic idea to make him scary again; and that’s exactly what the classic genre movie studio, Hammer Films, aims to do. Hammer looks to go way back in their history of films and reboot their 1957 classic The Abominable Snowman— it’s about the mythical creature called the Yeti who lives in the Himalayas.
Matthew Read and Jon Croker are penning the script and they look to put more of a horror spin on the original film—never a bad thing!
In this modern take on the Yeti myth, a scientific expedition’s illegal assent up an unclimbed peak of one of the World’s most formidable mountains accidentally awakens an ancient creature that could spell a certain end for them all.
This is the kind of film that you want to see a remake of. Why? Some of the very best remakes in the history of horror cinema have been of films just like this—The Fly and The Thing quickly come to mind. We have the technology to do what these films from the 50’s could have only dreamed of, which is exactly why the filmmakers need to take advantage of it. As long as they favor practical effects over CGI, this could be the monster everyone has been waiting for.
There’s a Yeti hiding in the mountains, and it sounds like he’s going to be tearing some unlucky scientists to pieces. I’m in, how about you?
