With the most recent announcement of Hammer Films remaking The Abominable Snowman, and plenty more on the horizon, it’s actually hard to believe that there are any horror films left to be remade. Poltergeist, Hellraiser and The Mummy are just a fraction of the horror films recently announced to get the remake treatment. For the longest time I dreaded the day that we would ever see a remake of Tobe Hooper’s Poltergeist because in my opinion it’s one of the most perfect horror movies ever made. It still holds up quite well today and remains one of the very best haunted house movies the genre has ever seen, so why would we need a remake? Well, as you guys know, a Poltergeist remake is most definitely happening, and it will be at the hands of director Gil Kenan.
Now that Poltergeist is on the chopping block, the next horror film that I’ve always feared would get remade is Steven Spielberg’s Jaws. Here’s one that we have yet to see a remake to, and thankfully so. Jaws not only changed the horror genre forever, but it created what we know of today as the summer blockbuster. It’s one of those films that will stand the test of time and forever keep people out of the ocean. It’s a brilliant film and one that I hope never sees a remake. I think the reason we haven’t seen a remake of Jaws yet is simply because no director has the balls to try and reinvent such a classic. It’s Hollywood though, so nothing is truly safe.
So that’s my question for you guys today:
Which horror film do you hope never gets remade?
I like this question because it’s one you really have to think about. What horror films are left? Not many, but there are certainly a few still standing. Sound off in the comments below and let me know!

Well, it used to be Carrie, but that’s shot to shit now.
I’m not sure Black Swan qualifies as horror but I hope I won’t live to see the day when it’s remade. It’s my favorite movie.
Another one which they shouldn’t go near is Alien. It’s a masterpiece.
Black Swan most certainly qualifies as horror. That’s such a fantastic film. Alien is one that I thought of as well. I can’t imagine that one getting remade. Great choice.
ALIENS! (or any in the franchise! ) CAN. NOT. be done.
I’m with you on that. Aliens is one of the best sequels ever, I can’t imagine anyone doing that one justice.
Plus…you just can’t “do” Alien movies without Sigourney. It’s just wrong.
Agreed! She’s the best.
I hope they don’t try and remake Scream. I love the first one so much, and I already have the third one to ruin the series, for me at least.
I’m with you there. The third one ruined the series for me as well. I think it’s safe to say we are a ways away from seeing someone remake Scream. I hope so anyways.
I hope so! Last I heard they had plans for Scream 5, but as long as Wes directs it, I’ll be fine.Just hope a Rob Zombie doesn’t get his hands on it
There are mumblings of a fifth film, but right now it looks like we’ll be seeing the TV series which will be on MTV before the film. It’s going to be terrible…
I’ll go into it with an open mind and hope its good, but something is telling me that it won’t be…
One would be Jaws; but the one that comes to mind immediately is The Exorcist.
Yes, that was one of the first that came to my mind as well. Amazing film.
As a huge fan of atmospheric horror, I dread the day they try to fuck with the Changeling, Audrey Rose and Ghost Story.
Never thought of those. Some great choices there!
The Exorcist. I will weep if that movie is ever remade.
Much like Jaws, it’s hard to imagine anyone even trying to remake The Exorcist. But I’m sure it will happen sooner or later.
I agree, I hope Jaws never gets remade. I love it so much, and it’s so well done, it’s one of those films that would not benefit from a different vision. I also hope to never see The Shining being remade, or They Live.
A remake of They Live would be kind of ridiculous! The Shining is a great choice. Really hope we never see that one getting a remake. There’s just no way!
Hmm…The Human Centipede!
Lol. I’m not sure why anyone would even want to do a remake of that.
Oldboy……..although it looks like that MAY turn out ok. I’d also say SAW, as it frightens me to think they will remake/reboot that one day.
It’s hard to imagine a SAW remake, honestly. What would the purpose be. Especially when they are still making them!
Yeah, theres now talk of a Saw 8. But then last year there was the Lionsgate folks saying they will reboot it one day. And James Wan/Leigh Whannell have said they arent finished with the franchise yet…….Im happy if it continues in the same world, but all the remake talk already is terrifying 🙂
Yea, that’s true. Honestly, I gave up on the franchise after the third film.
