The Divide scribe Karl Mueller makes his directorial debut with Mr. Jones, a mysterious found-footage thriller that I’ve been keeping a close eye on for well over a year now. We now have the film’s very first trailer and it delivers all the creepy goods in the form of a maddening shaky-cam and a few sinister looking scarecrows. I’ve been keeping a close eye on Mr. Jones for a very long time now so it’s nice to finally see a trailer, and especially one that doesn’t disappoint. I really dig the creepy, unsettling atmosphere the film has created with its skin crawling set designs and the mysterious character of Mr. Jones who sounds absolutely terrifying.
Ah, the sweet found-footage genre, what would we do without you? We’ve seen one hell of a shaky-cam comeback over the years as it feels like 2 out of every 3 horror movies being made these days are taking a page from The Blair Witch Project; hell, even the upcoming Friday the 13th is thinking about taking the iconic franchise into the realm of found-footage. While most of them are okay at best, there is the occasionally found-footage film that effectively uses the style to its advantage. These kind of films, if done right, can create an entirely different kind of horror that traditional films just can’t. The key is that they are placed in the right hands. So is Mr. Jones going to break the mold, or just be another bust? Time will tell on that one, folks. But for now, this one is looking pretty damn good.
Rhino’s Horror reader and fan John, from Pumpkinrot, is the mad genius behind the terrifying creations you’ll see in the film! How cool is that? If you missed the article I wrote up featuring his work, be sure to check it out right here!
Look for Mr. Jones on VOD May 6th.
Scott (Jon Foster of Stay Alive) and Penny (Sarah Jones of “Sons Of Anarchy”) just moved to a remote cabin to escape the pressures of the world and breathe new life into their art. But they’ll soon discover they are not alone: an infamously reclusive artist – known only as ‘Mr. Jones’ – lives nearby. He doesn’t like to be disturbed, and only comes out at night when he drags his strange, sinister sculptures deep into the woods. When Scott and Penny’s curiosity leads them too close for Mr. Jones’ comfort, he plunges the young couple into a nightmare world of mayhem, madness and mind-bending terror.
Diane Neal, Mark Steger, and David Clennon co-star in this startling tale from director Karl Mueller.
Creepy trailer indeed.
Thanks for the mention, Ryan!
No problem, man!
Another found footage film?? Ugh, these really need to stop. Seriously. We’ve had enough.
There’s a lot going around right now. It’s actually hard to get excited about any of them at this point, but Mr. Jones is one I’ve been excited about for a while so I’ll give it a shot. You’re right though, it’s just a gimmick at this point.
Very Blair Witch!
It does have that vibe!
I remembered you promoting this one a while ago and I just came across it on netflix, so I gave it a go…but I was bored as heck. I quit after about 35-40 minutes in. I just didn’t care. I’m about to search for something else to watch on netflix. If you have any recommendations, let me know.
Was Mr. Jones a let-down for you, as well, or did you like it considerably more than I did?
I skipped it, mostly because a lot of people were saying the same thing as you did about it. I think Housebound is on Netflix now, that’s a fantastic film if you haven’t seen it.
LOL You made the right choice! So, you made me want to watch a movie on your site, and then you didn’t even watch yourself once learning of it’s stinking mediocrity! That is awesome you dodged a bullet. I usually can dodge them, as well, but this one really did come across intriguing and unique. Too bad it was as dull as a five-year-old razor.
I actually watched “Housebound” a couple weeks ago after seeing Isaacs promote it. I thought it was pretty good.
Hah, exactly. If it LOOKS good, I’ll promote the shit out of it, but that doesn’t mean I have to watch it 🙂
I’m looking on netflix for a good horror. Have you seen or heard anything about “At the Devil’s Door”?
I reviewed that one. Didn’t like it much but I know a lot of other people seemed to have enjoyed it.
Okay, I’m gonna give it a shot ready to stop it at the first sight of trouble. I think I will give “Bad Turn Worse” a watch afterwards. And I just came across “Tracers” on Amazon Instant starring the great Taylor Lautner. You definitely need to write an entry about it and let the community know about it.
Right on, man!
