For a while there we could barely make it through a week without hearing some sort of news regarding Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead 2. Since then, however, Alvarez has attached himself to a couple of new projects—one of them being Dante’s Inferno for Universal—and has kept pretty quiet about any movement on the sequel. So what’s the deal with the sequel and why is it taking so long to get off the ground?
Thankfully, Shock Till You Drop recently caught up with the director who shed some light on where they’re at with Evil Dead 2 and even mentions a little gem that Sam Raimi is currently working on the script for Army of Darkness 2:
Sam, Bruce and Rob Tapert and I are good friends and we talk to one another often and we’re always coming up with new ideas and projects,” he said. “Sam is teasing Army of Darkness 2, which he is working on the script with his brother, but at the same time Evil Dead 2 is something we definitely want to do at some point. But part of the reason I think the last one was successful is because Sam took his time to find the right team of people to do it. We took the time to find the right script and all of that. If you had Evil Dead 2 coming out the following year, it’s just for the market, not because you’ve found the right idea. It takes time to find the right idea and that’s what we’re doing. It’s always in the background and always in our heads. And every time I talk with Sam, we’re bouncing around ideas to find what would be the perfect sequel.
So there’s certainly some good news in there as well as some bad. The Bad—it sounds like it’s going to be a while before we see Evil Dead 2 in theaters. The Good—it’s nice to know that they’re waiting on the right idea before moving forward with a sequel rather than throwing something quick and easy together to cash in at the box office.
That’s the kind of stuff you want to hear from a guy like Alvarez because now we know that when this thing does eventually happen, it’s probably going to be pretty damn good. And the bonus in all of this is the fact that Alvarez says Raimi is working on the script for Army of Darkness 2, which could mean a bunch of things but it’s still exciting nonetheless. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more about this one soon!

I LOVED Evil Dead with Jane Levy. I don’t get it at all why some people hate it.
Whoever didn’t like Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake is out of their damned minds. Such an awesome flick, man.
NO DOUBT!
LOVED IT!
The people who hated Evil Dead are the kind of people who automatically hate anything without giving it any sort of a chance. You cannot be an objectionable reviewer of anything if you are going to hate it before you even see it. Sure, there’s a lot of recycled sh!t out there nowadays but Evil Dead isn’t one of them.
I couldn’t have said it better, Jmount!
Thank you, Ryan.
Please just leave this series alone.
Eeeeek, I would LOVE to see what they come together with, I really liked the 2013 one!
Yea, same here! I’m sure it will be great when/if it does happen.
We have faith!
