Holy shit, get excited.
It was way, way back in July when we caught wind that Sam Raimi had plans for an Evil Dead TV series that would see none other than Bruce Campbell return as the legendary chainsaw-wielding hero, Ash. It is now not only confirmed, but Starz has ordered 10 half-hour episodes that will debut in 2015. Sweet jesus. Raimi, of course, will direct the pilot episode kicking off a new adventure with Ash as a plague of Deadites threatens to destroy all of mankind.
Either way you slice it, this is some fantastic news. “Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it,” said Raimi.
Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.
“I’m really excited to bring this series to the ‘Evil Dead’ fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” said Campbell. Ash vs. Evil Dead really couldn’t have landed at a better home, and I can’t wait to see what Raimi and Campbell have in store going forward.
I have to say, though, that 30 minute episodes are going to be painful, only because the show is going to come and go before we even have time to digest it all. That said, I’m just happy to see this thing finally happening after all these years. And if this is the only way were going to see Ash getting himself into trouble all over again, then I’ll f*cking take it! The only thing I’m wondering is whether or not his is a one and done kind of series or if they’ve got multiple seasons planned. I guess we’ll find out soon enough! Groovy!
I think I just wet myself – this is amazing news!
Haha! You and everyone else, Laura! How awesome is this, though? Bruce, Raimi, Ash, Evil Dead… soooo good!
Nice! unfortunately I don’t get Starz 😦
Neither do I, but I’m pretty sure Amazon or iTunes will have the episodes up the day after they air or some shit like that.
Yeah, I get to watch everything a year late, but I’ still glad they’re doing the show!
This is incredibly exciting news! I can’t wait!
Same here! So glad that it’s finally happening!
Yes!!!!! This is going to be incredible! Please tell me I’m not dreaming?!?
Nope, not dreaming. It’s actually going to happen. Who knew!?
We’ll see 😀
Nice! A TV series will let us spend more time with Ash, which I think we’ll need to really catch up with what he’s been up to since Army of Darkness. 30-minute episodes will keep things moving at a brisk pace and shouldn’t feel bloated, and Starz should allow just the right level of violence and mature humour! So stoked!
Hell yeah, man. Couldn’t agree more! Starz is the perfect fit for a show like this and 30 minute episodes are really going to fuel the madness of Raimi’s storytelling.
