With the Sundance Film Festival just around the corner, we’re going to start hearing a lot of buzz surrounding what will be some of horror’s most anticipated releases of 2015. One of those films has already been tearing through the festival circuit, leaving nothing behind but shock and awe as David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows makes up one of the biggest names entering the Park City-set festival. There’s already plenty of chatter surrounding Mitchell’s nightmarish tale, but even more so now that the film’s first trailer has hit the web.
Without any context it’s hard to tell what’s going on in the trailer as we’re hit with slow, creeping shots narrated by a teenage girl who’s voice trembles in terror while telling her parents how much she loves them. Again, while it doesn’t tell us much, the trailer does a great job of wringing out every drop of horror that it can in just over a minute. The film is essentially about a sexually transmitted haunting, leaving a frightening message behind that will surely set itself apart from the genre. It’s certainly a film to keep an eye, one that will no doubt go through the hype machine long before the rest of us can see it. Hopefully it holds up.
After a romantic night out, a beautiful nineteen-year-old girl finds herself pursued by a legion of malevolent, lumbering phantoms that will pursue her forever — unless she passes the curse on to someone else.
It stars Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary, Olivia Luccardi and Lili Sepe.
