A few weeks ago Poltergeist star Sam Rockwell spilled some concerning details on Gil Kenan’s contemporary take on the Tobe Hooper classic, saying that it’s more of an adventure movie for kids. While I’m still scratching my head over that, perhaps the thing I was worried about most was the fact that they’ve been keeping this film in the dark despite its summer release; that’s usually a bad sign. But here we are today with a bunch of great looking stills, one of which features yet another clown—one of the scariest elements of the original—that will surely leave an impression.
Although we’re only looking at images here, what we see is no doubt promising. I’m not getting much of a “kids’ movie” vibe either, which is a good thing. In fact, Kenan may have just squashed that entirely when he told USA Today that, “the film is super-scary. And it’s scary on its own terms. I am excited to finally be able to share that with the world.” I hope he’s right. That said, there’s supposedly going to be a trailer this Thursday, so hold out any hope for this one until then, folks.
Dubbed a revisionist take on the original film, the new story centers on a family struggling to make ends meet that relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.
Poltergeist is expected to haunt theaters on July 24th. It stars Jared Harris, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie Dewitt.

Nice! Could that clown look any creepier?! My god. . . . I def approve of this.
And yeah I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up yet, but Sam Rockwell has been known to falsely front-run some of his stuff before. He could well have been deliberately misleading everyone. Let’s hope that’s the case, anyway
That was my first impression as well, what a creepy clown! I love the new look. I’m hoping we see a good shot of it in the trailer tomorrow.
Oh whew! Haha!
Makes me want to subscribe even more to my previous theory that Rockwell was screwing with us on purpose, haha! I certainly hope so, and you’re right, these images do restore a little faith. PLEASE BE GOOD! Haha!
I would have to agree, seems like Rockwell was full of it. The trailer will tell us a lot, though, so I’m still waiting over here on the fence!
