We already knew that Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi were going to reunite in Ash vs. Evil Dead—a 10-episode television series on Starz—but they’re bringing more than just a chainsaw and boomstick with them. For the first time ever Ash Williams is going to have not one sidekick, but two.
Word got out today that both Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo will co-star alongside Campbell in the long-awaited follow-up to Raimi’s classic Evil Dead franchise. But we have more than just a couple of faces to pin on the new show because with this news came fresh details on their characters and what role they play in Ash vs. Evil Dead, so here’s the break down:
Pablo Simon Bolivar is an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick – a Sancho Panza to Ash’s Don Quixote. Pablo believes in Ash’s heroism even if Ash himself doesn’t. Kelly Maxwell is a moody wild child trying to outrun her past. Reluctantly dragged into the fight against Evil with Ash and Pablo, Kelly finds a different kind of family with her fellow Deadite slayers.
This certainly adds an interesting wrinkle to the story, especially when you think about Ash working with a couple of kids half his age. Seeing the aging lothario and chainsaw-wielding deadite hunter interacting with these two at the height of an apocalypse is going to be a hell of a lot of fun, and I’m curious to see how he handles it over the course of a season. And speaking of which, I have really warmed up to the idea of this being told in the format of a TV series because it only gives us fans more of what we’ve been asking for all along. Rather than a 2 hour (at best) feature film, we’re instead getting 5 hours of content. What’s not to like?
For those of you who don’t know, the show focuses on Ash, who is forced to face his demons–personal and literal—after spending 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind. Raimi will direct the first episode of Ash vs. Evil Dead that he wrote with Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy. It’s expected to premiere sometime this year.

I a actually had no idea about this TV show, Ryan. I have to say, I’m over the moon, man. This is great news.
What! Well, now you know! I’m really excited about it, too. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and it being on Starz will allow it to be plenty bloody. Can’t wait!
Yeah, man! Someone this news always escaped me. I have no idea why. Still, I’m on it!!!
That’s pretty funny that this somehow eluded you. Now you can be as excited as the rest of us!
Indeed I am! 🙂
Really looking forward to seeing this show!
Aren’t we all! It’s going to be nuts, simple as that. At least it’s happening this year, which is great.
Seeing as how Bruce Campbell was my first crush ever when I saw Evil Dead 2 (and that chainsaw hand) as a kid, I’m so stoked about this! I’ve been trying to keep up with the news coming from Bruce on Twitter… Long Live Ash!
No better crush than that! Of everything that’s being released this year (and there’s some really good shit coming out) nothing comes close to Ash vs. Evil Dead. The potential is through the roof.
I Have To Get Starz Now. Darn Me For Ordering Showtime Instead!
Definitely going to need to get Starz for this one. Showtime is good too, though. You get Penny Dreadful!
