We no longer have to wonder what Hemlock Grove’s Bill Skarsgard is going to look like as Pennywise the clown in Andy Muschietti’s IT because EW just shared the first ever look at Stephen King’s terrifying monster. And while it’s still a pretty big tease, we at least get to see his face and it’s menacing as all hell. Obviously it will be a lot more telling when we can see him in his entirety, but I really dig this first image and it’s the first time I’ve had hope for Muschietti’s adaptation since Fukunaga left the project. What do you guys think? Do you like that Pennywise looks younger and are you excited for Skarsgard’s take on the character?
In talking with the site, Skarsgard says, “It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates.” He goes on to talk about his approach to the iconic character, saying, “It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.”
The film is being shot in two parts, one that follows a group of teens called the Losers Club who defeat a creature called It. Years later, the creature returns, and the club, now adults, have to band together again even though they have no memory of the first battle. IT is out in theaters on September 8th, 2017.
The film also stars Owen Teague (Bloodline), Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers) and Jeremy Ray Taylor (Ant-Man).
Love it!! I think he’ll do a great job! Can’t wait for this one!
Same here. I’m impressed with the casting choice and I’m excited to see how it portrays such an iconic character. He looks super creepy, too!
I had no idea this was happening until like last week. I spent three seasons drooling over him in Hemlock Grove. His character was dark, but “humanly” so, despite his vampire identity. Like he said himself, this will be something else entirely, because it’s not human. It is pretty disconcerting to see him in full clown make-up (I fucking hate clowns). He’s too pretty to be a clown. :p
I love the casting and always thought they should go with a relatively unknown actor. Seems like he was a great choice!
Agreed! It’s a hard job filling Tim Curry’s clown shoes. 🙂
Oh for sure. I definitely feel for Skarsgard, who has to live up to those expectations. Good is good, though, and I think he’ll be just fine.
Oh I agree… No one is Tim Curry, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to transform the role.
“Menacing as all hell” is right man! Holy crap he looks bad ass
He really does. I love the look of him (so far) and I can’t wait to see the entire outfit. Should be solid!
He’s definitely looking creepy!
So far so good!
What?! I can’t believe that clean-cut young man is this creepy monster. That is real talent in makeup artistry – and talent in the actor, too, to convey such menace.
I know, right?! I’m excited to see what he looks like beyond just his face. I imagine it’s going to be pure nightmare fuel!
I remember Tim Curry in the original IT scared the pants out of me, but the ending was such a let down. Never heard of this guy before but the poster does look pretty scary.
I’m with you there! Tim Curry is literally the only thing I like about the original miniseries, which really didn’t do the novel justice at all.
