The Beast is real in the first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Split

M. Night Shyamalan’s latest looks clownshit crazy. Imagine Norman Bates with 21 more personalities and you have Split, a thriller that sees an insane James McAvoy completely lose his mind. This is such a perfectly weird looking movie, and knowing that it’s coming from Shyamalan is both exciting and intriguing—and I love that the trailer hints at him being able to alter his DNA in a way that could change him into some sort of beast; it’s very Jekyll and Hyde. But since this is a Shyamalan film, I suspect the trailer is being intentionally deceptive.

Despite his up and down (but mostly down) filmography, I dig the mystery behind Shyamalan’s films, and the fact that we’re going to see McAvoy essentially play 23 different characters is pretty fucking awesome—aka I’m going to watch the shit out of this movie. Also, it’s great to see Anya Taylor-Joy just killing it lately with The Witch, Morgan, and now this. Split opens in theaters on January 20, 2017.

Though Kevin has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

It stars James McAvoy, Haley Lu Richardson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley and Kim Director.

  1. OMG this film looks awesome! People with multiple personalities can alter their DNA? What?! Nice to see James McAvoy in such a twisted role. You are right that M. Night has been more misses than hits lately, but I’m willing to give him another shot.

  2. This is going to sound totally stupid but I want to see this for Kim Director… (And the story sounds good)

    1. Not stupid at all! I loved Anya in The Witch, so I’m pretty excited to see her here. I’m not too familiar with Kim, though.

    1. Haha, yeah I get what you’re saying. I think a lot of people really want to like M. Night, it’s just hard to with his most recent output. I’m certainly rooting for the guy, that’s for sure!

      1. I loved his last film, The Visit! Although more comedy then horror…. I just think a lot of people think of him as a one hit wonder, Sixth Sense is hard to follow up after all

  3. I am all over this for James McAvoy. The man is freaking brilliant, and can play that broken, unstable individual with mental illness SO WELL. M Night better not blow this, it’s an exceptionally intriguing concept that has a ton of potential!
