A24—the mad minds behind this year’s Green Room and The Witch—have finally released a trailer for Bryan Bertino’s (The Strangers) creature feature The Monster, which follows a mother and daughter who are trapped and tormented by a terrifying evil. Bertino has somehow only made two other films, first hitting the genre running with perhaps one of the best home invasion thrillers of all time in The Strangers. He followed that up with the not-so-good Mockingbird; another example of a good director making a bad found footage movie, so I’m glad that he ditched that format for something more traditional in The Monster. The film looks insanely entertaining, and I love when creature features are left to run amok in confined spaces because it heightens the impact of its monster.
The Monster is out exclusively on DIRECTV today before rolling out to VOD and theaters on November 11th.
In it, a divorced mother and her headstrong daughter must make an emergency late night road trip to see the girl’s father. As they drive through deserted country roads on a stormy night, they suddenly have a startling collision that leaves them shaken but not seriously hurt. Their car, however, is dead, and as they try in vain to get help, they come to realize they are not alone on these desolate backroads – a terrifying evil is lurking in the surrounding woods, intent on never letting them leave…
It stars Zoe Kazan, Ella Ballentine, Scott Speedman, and Aaron Douglas.
Thank goodness he skipped FF. Keeping my eyes peeled.
Right? Every director ever, from here on out, should skip FF forever and ever.
