Shudder Celebrates Women in Horror Month

If you’re not familiar with Shudder, it’s a streaming service dedicated to all of the things that go bump in the night, but it’s also so much more than that—it’s a collection of hundreds of horror films featuring some of the gnarliest shit the genre has to offer, impossible-to-find gems that will melt your eyeballs, and even some fantastic indie films like Nina Forever and the criminally underrated Murder Party. It doesn’t matter what kind of horror you’re into—you could even fancy some of that super weird shit like David Schmoeller’s Tourist Trap—because Shudder has it… they have it all.

And now they’re celebrating Women in Horror Month with an all-new collection: “A Woman’s Touch” is a collection of films highlighting and honoring horror movies directed by women, which features such notable female-directed films as Clair Denis’s Trouble Every Day, Lynne Ramsey’s We Need To Talk About Kevin, and Shudder exclusive supernatural horror film Dearest Sister by Mattie Do, among many others. Additionally, on February 9th Shudder will debut Blind Sun, the hallucinatory dystopian film from Lebanese female director Joyce A. Nashawati, which had its North American premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

We know there’s no such thing as “a woman’s perspective on horror”, because the twisted and unique views included in this collection are as diverse as the women who offer them. From vampires both real and imaginary, to doppelgängers and collisions with the afterlife, this collection has it all. Identity crises, demonic domestic issues, phantasmagoric romance, the horrors of motherhood and feminist interpretations on the giallo all make an appearance. These films don’t shy away from tough and personal themes. More importantly, these blood-splattered gems are sure to satisfy your cravings for powerful voices and thought-provoking horror.

    1. You’re welcome! We Need To Talk About Kevin is a great psychological horror film that not a lot of people have seen. I’d go with that one 🙂

      1. Cool beans. I’ve read the book, so I’ll see how the movie is different. Thanks for the suggestion.

        Keep smiling,
