The wait has been long for Leatherface, a prequel to Tobe Hooper’s iconic slasher The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And while the franchise has finally entered straight-to-VOD territory (a sure sign of fatigue), it’s hard to ignore the ridiculous talent behind it—that’s right, Inside duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are bringing the chainsaw-wielding madman back to life. While the franchise itself has been mostly terrible, there’s no doubting Leatherface’s iconic presence in horror—I’m a big fan of the original and its remake, but that’s about it. That said, I absolutely cannot wait to see what these two do with the character, especially because we’re seeing him under an entirely new light: as a kid.
Our first look is a particularly nasty one with a delightfully bloody red band trailer, which is par the course for the franchise. Leatherface hits DirecTV on September 21 before rolling out to limited theaters and VOD on October 20th.
In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
It stars Finn Jones, Lili Taylor, Stephen Dorff, James Bloor, Nicole Andrews, Vanessa Grasse, Sam Coleman, and Sam Strike.
Service a la française, sir! Me like it:)
