Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer, so Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films that should be on your radar.

Kicking the first Cheap Thrills off is Caitlin Koller’s 30 Miles from Nowhere, a cabin-in-the-woods slasher that looks like a perfect blend of humor and horror. While we’ve certainly seen this set-up before, there’s a reason why so many filmmakers continue to go back into the woods—as soon as the sun goes down, the forest turns from quiet and peaceful to dark and terrifying. That familiarity can go a long way for a small film like this, especially if it finds its own voice amidst what appears to be an impressive body count.

When five college pals return to rural Wisconsin for their estranged friend’s funeral, what begins as an uneasy reunion becomes a terrifying fight for survival.
