Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer. Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films (and some other interesting movies that come our way) that should be on your radar.
They say spring is the best time to release a Christmas movie because… okay, well no one says that, but props to IFC Midnight for releasing their holiday horror movie in the middle of April anyway. I Trapped the Devil is director Josh Lobo’s first feature film and it’s going to be an easy sell to indie genre fans because both Jocelin Donahue (House of the Devil) and AJ Bowen (You’re Next) star in this twisted looking haunter.
This is about as good as a horror trailer gets; the slow-crawling tension and freaky-as-shit dialog go a long way here, and it spoils absolutely nothing. Dig in and lock the doors, especially if you have a basement.
A man descends into paranoia after trapping what he believes to be the devil in his basement, but things take a dark turn when his family unexpectedly arrive for Christmas.
Look for I Trapped the Devil in theaters and on VOD this April 26th.
It’ll be interesting to see the reviews on this one. There seem to be a lot of clichés here, but maybe that’s the point. However, in all fairness, I watched this trailer right after seeing “How to be Alone” on your previous post, and this poor trailer can’t hold a candle to that other film.
Oh yeah, that’s a tough act to follow! I’m also curious to see what others think of this one. I’ll probably be checking it out soon 😀
I was looking forward to this one. I like slow burning psychological dramas, but i fell asleep during this one ….numerous times (son kept nudging me awake). Maybe it would have worked better as a Short, not enough content for a Feature? Don’t think I’ll be revisiting for the minutes I missed. Anyone else seen this movie?
Bummed to hear that you didn’t enjoy it! I’ll be checking it out soon. Hopefully I stay awake 😉
