One of Japan’s original masters of horror who is responsible for insane classics like Audition, Three… Extremes, Visitor Q, Ichi the Killer, and Gozu is finally returning to the genre that made him famous. Lesson of the Evil is based on the Yusuke Kishi bestselling 2010 novel “Aku no Kyoten” and has just gotten a theatrical release date slated for November.
“A teacher named Seiji Hasumi who’s loved by his students and respected by his peers. However, his outward charm masks his true nature. In reality, Hasumi is a psychopath who is unable to feel empathy for other human beings. Specifically, he has a severe antisocial personality disorder. Because of his mental condition, Hasumi chooses to deal with problems like bullying and overbearing “monster parents” the easy way—by systematically murdering his students.”
The film sounds like Miike is going to be doing all of the things in this film that has made him so popular in the horror genre. Unfortunately, Miike is notorious for ringing out so many films a year that he’s bound to make a film that falls short. Let’s all hope that Lesson of the Evil doesn’t suffer that fate because this could be the horror film we have all been waiting for.
The teaser is extremely short and it’s not in English but it does get its point across quite well. Check it out below.
