Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer. Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films (and some other interesting movies that come our way) that should be on your radar.
In case you didn’t know, breaking into an old person’s house is a shit idea — especially if a turkey baster is involved — but apparently the kids in Julius Berg’s The Owners haven’t gotten that memo because it looks like a cooking utensil is the least of their worries. The latest in the home invasion genre adapts the graphic novel Une Nuit de Pleine Lune into what looks like a fun (and bloody) take the storied genre; plus, it stars Maisie Williams so I would imagine a lot of people are getting stabbed. That’s a win in my book.
A group of friends think they found the perfect easy score – an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the elderly couple that lives there comes home early the tables are suddenly turned. As a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues the would-be thieves are left to fight to save themselves from a nightmare they could never have imagined.
The Owners is out on VOD this September 4th So while you wait, feast on more Cheap Thrills here.
