Sightseers marks Ben Wheatley’s follow up to the brutally disturbing Kill List that helped establish Wheatley as one of horror’s most promising directors. Wheatley chose an interesting direction to go in after filming Kill List — instead of the seriousness and violent nature of that film he decided to blend his brutal style of filmmaking with some very dark comedic tones. Sightseers centers around Chris who wants to show his girlfriend Tina his world, but events soon conspire against the couple as their once dream caravan holiday takes a horrific and violent wrong turn.
Sightseers is a fantastically twisted comedy with a couple of characters that while awkward and demented are hard not to like. It’s truly love at first kill. Speaking of killing, there’s quite a few unlucky souls who meet their end throughout the film that show just what Wheatley can bring to the horror genre. Beyond the killing, however, is a film that is wickedly charming and often times absolutely hysterical. The characters themselves are so awkwardly in love that it puts a smile on your face as you watch them struggle with one another’s personalities which was one of my favorite elements of the film.
Once the film gets going it doesn’t take long to figure out who’s next on the chopping block as certain characters are killed off just as quickly as they are introduced which keeps the film moving at a solid pace. Wheatley smartly ends the flick just in time before the kills become “been there done that” and ends it on such a high note that it will leave a smile from ear to ear on your face as the credits begin to roll.
Sightseers is truly an original gem that’s just as funny as it is dark and twisted and a rewarding watch for those who enjoy some awkward humor mixed in with a little bit of bashed in skulls. There’s a lot of charm to be found in his latest film, just as long as you can stomach some good ol’ fashion blood along the way. Wheatley is a name you’ll see a lot around these parts and for good reason as he has established himself as one of horror’s most promising directors.

This has been on my list for awhile – it looks like great fun!
It’s really a lot of fun but it all depends on your kind of humor. It’s about a dark as a dark comedy can get and some of the kills would make any horror fan happy. It’s great stuff, hope to see your thoughts on this one in the future!
Good stuff man! Can’t remember who I was chatting to lately about it but they thought the ending was ridiculous. I thought it was brilliant and perfectly fitting. I had a lot of fun with this film. Can’t wait to see Wheatley’s next one now.
Totally agree. That was the only way you could have ended this movie. It definitely was ridiculous but in the best possible way!
