Ben Wheatley is a treasure. The director behind the brutal cult classic Kill List, the twisted romance Sightseers, and the absolutely batshit crazy A Field in England is back with his biggest film yet—an adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s High-Rise. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, who has been appearing in the genre more and more lately (no complaints here!) and it was met with the kind of reviews you’d expect from a Wheatley film (they were all over the place). So, if anything, High-Rise is on track to be another knockout from Wheatley.
Wheatley is a daring voice in the genre, one who isn’t afraid to go to some dark places. Sure, his films can be tough to swallow, but the stuff he has put out over the years have been a hell of a start to an already brilliant career. Below is the fantastic teaser for High-Rise.
When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on “enemy” floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.
The film also stars Luke Evans, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller and Elizabeth Moss.
This almost sounds like “Lord of the Flies” for the One Percent.
Yes, that’s a great way of putting it!
