Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer. Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films (and some other interesting movies that come our way) that should be on your radar.
Elijah Wood sure is doin’ the damn thing lately, huh? Other than being one of the masterminds behind indie genre label Spectrevision, who by the way has one helluva track record, he’s also one-half of the Visitations podcast and somehow still finds time to star in movies. His latest, the highly praised directorial debut from Ant Timpson, looks all sorts of twisted and strange—aka my kind of shit. The first trailer for Come To Daddy is here, and so is Elijah Wood’s majestic haircut. Dude must have sat down at the barber and just handed him a picture of Lloyd Christmas and said “THAT”.
Norval Greenwood, a privileged man-child arrives at the beautiful and remote coastal cabin of his estranged father. He quickly discovers that not only is dad a jerk, but he also has a shady past that is rushing to catch up with both of them. Now, hundreds of miles from his cushy comfort zone, Norval must battle with demons, both real and perceived, in order to reconnect with a father he barely knows.
Come To Daddy is out in theaters and on VOD February 7th. In the meantime, feast on more Cheap Thrills here.
This one is on my watchlist. I love how Elijah Wood has completely embraced the horror genre. He’s been in some gems!
It’s pretty awesome, huh? Especially for a dude who doesn’t have to, you know? You can tell he just loves the genre.
PS – mad props for dropping a comment on Christmas Eve!
Haha, any time! 😉
