The Missing Reel old-schoolers know that I have a very special place in my heart for the 1984 holiday slasher Silent Night Deadly Night (some background). The film is very much a product of its time, where slashers in particular were ruling the genre. It’s not exactly a good film, at least when you compare it to some of the movies that surrounded it in the 80’s, but it’s certainly worthy of its cult status—yo, a girl gets kebab’d by a mounted deer head, so you won’t be hearing any complaints from me anyway.
Paige Reynolds of Phantom City Creative has done a wonderful job of taking this Christmas horror staple and illustrating exactly why we love it so much—if a deranged Santa covered in blood doesn’t get you into the holiday spirit, then you’re probably on his naughty list. Gotta love the murder-weapon-snowflakes, too.
