Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer. Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films (and some other interesting movies that come our way) that should be on your radar.
Chances are you’ve seen a good horror anthology lately — the format was revitalized a few years ago and has been going strong ever since — so it’s not surprising that the Shudder exclusive Scare Package has been generating at ton of hype throughout its festival run. With an impressive line of talent behind it, the film looks like a total blast, balling up our favorite horror cliches and paying homage to them in seven different tales of terror. I love the inspiration behind this one because it takes us back to a time when the horror genre was really starting to find its voice — a gooey love letter if you will — and if this trailer is any indication, things are about to get very wet in here, so lace them boots up!
In Scare Package, Chad, the owner of Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium, recounts a series of bone-chilling, blood-splattered tales to illustrate the rules of the horror genre to his newest employee.
Scare Package is out on Shudder this June 18th. So while you wait, feast on more Cheap Thrills here.
What a great idea! It looks smart and self-knowing. Destined to become a cult classic, yes?
