I honestly couldn’t tell you which show I’m looking forward to the most between Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain and Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. What I can say, however, is that both of these shows have the potential to take small screen horror to the next level. From the word go, series creator John Logan was aiming for Penny Dreadful to be dark and terrifying while bringing to life some of literatures most classic characters.

So far, it appears that he has done just that. The trailer offers a deep look inside the psychosexual tale that is Penny Dreadful giving us a glimpse at some of its many demons. Lace your boots up, kids, this one is going to make a splash. Watch the trailer below and don’t forget to leave your thoughts!

The series draws from famous works of literature, posing that some of the most terrifying protagonists — Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray, Dracula’s Van Helsing and more — come together in Victorian London.

Penny Dreadful will premiere on Sunday, May 11th at 10pm and stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Hearry Treadaway, Billie Piper and Danny Sapani.
