Friendship and madness collide in the first Victor Frankenstein trailer

Paul McGuigan’s take on Mary Shelley’s classic monster tale has been promising to take the source material in a new direction since it was originally teased, and now that the official trailer is here, it’s easy to see what they meant all along. It’s a story that looks very rooted in the friendship between Victor Frankenstein and Igor, who tries to save Frankenstein from his very own monstrous creation.

The film itself looks gorgeous with grand sets and wonderful chemistry between Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy, but outside of the monsters being created by Dr. Frankenstein, it feels very far from a horror film, which could just be how the trailer was cut. That said, it’s a solid enough first look at the film, that’s for sure.

Victor Frankenstein is out in theaters on November 25th.

Radical scientist Victor Frankenstein and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman share a noble vision of aiding humanity through their groundbreaking research into immortality. But Victor’s experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation.

It stars Daniel Radcliffe, James McAvoy, Jessica Brown Findlay, Andrew Scott and Freddie Fox.
