Horror anthologies are all the rage right now, taking us back to a time when short-form horror was a staple of the genre. The latest anthology offering hails from eight Mexican directors who have united to create a film featuring the most brutally terrifying Mexican traditions and legends. Mexico Barbaro presents haunting stories that have been woven into the fabric of a nation’s culture, some passed down through the centuries and some new, but all equally frightening.
Look for Mexico Barbaro on VOD and DVD this November 3rd!
Stories of boogeymen, trolls, ghosts, monsters, Aztec sacrifices, and – of course – the Day of the Dead all come together to create a film that is as original as it is familiar… and as important as it is horrifying.
Directors represented in this anthology are Jorge Michel Grau (We Are What We Are, The ABCs of Death), Isaac Ezban (The Incident), Laurette Flores, Ulises Guzmán, Edgar Nito, sound designer Lex Ortega (Here Comes the Devil, Frankenstein’s Army), Gigi Saul Guerrero (El Gigante, Choose Your Victim), and Rue Morgue Mexico coordinator Aaron Soto.
I loooooove horror anthologies! And this was before they become ‘popular’ recently :p
I had no idea about this new release so thanks for drawing my attention to it Ryan! I will definitely have to see what it’s all about 😀
It’s one of the new horror fads that I can really get behind because a good anthology can really be a ton of fun.
History repeating itself again 🙂 portmanteau movies were popular decades ago!
My personal favourites are Creepshow (and Creepshow 2) and The Vault of Horror.
Creepshow was the best! I recently saw Tales from the Darkside the movie and was pretty disappointed in it.
I’m doing a review of Creepshow 2 for a Stephen King blogathon very soon so keep your eyes peeled!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Tales from the Darkside actually, so I better pipe down! Ha ha. Sorry you didn’t enjoy it too much, is that the one where a woman wants to cook a little boy?
Nice! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for that! Yep that’s the one—it’s pretty bad, especially that first segment. Yikes!
Thanks Ryan!
Ooh I might have to watch it soon haha, just for fun of it!!!
This looks good. Can’t wait to see this.
That looks absolutely wild!
Yeah I thought so, too!
