Horror has never been more alive than it is right now and a lot of that stems from the understated indie gems that come out each and every month. They’re cheap, they’re thrilling, and they’re often some of the best films the genre has to offer. Cheap Thrills aims at highlighting the upcoming indie horror films (and some other interesting movies that come our way) that should be on your radar.
Witches have made a pretty convincing comeback in recent years with films like Suspiria, The Witch, and The Love Witch (to name a few) injecting new life into the genre, so it’s not surprising that we continue to see a rise in that part of the horror world. Deadheads tandem Brett and Drew Pierce have a very promising looking new film on the horizon called The Wretched, and it looks every bit as mean and nasty as its title suggests.
A defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, faces off with a thousand year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of and posing as the woman next door.
The Wretched is making the festival rounds with a release still to be announced. In the meantime, feast on more Cheap Thrills here.
